‘Complete shambles’, ‘Disgusted by this’ – Rangers fans rage at official club announcement

On Tuesday afternoon, Hibernian confirmed the signing of Glenn Middleton, on a season-long loan from Rangers.

The teenage winger enjoyed a breakout 2018 but struggled for playing time over the second half of last season and has fallen further down the pecking order this summer.

The likes of Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie, Sheyi Ojo and Brandon Barker have all added to Steven Gerrard’s options in wide areas, and therefore, it’s been clear for some time that Middleton would spend this campaign elsewhere.

He turned down a switch to NAC Breda in Holland, in favour of heading to Easter Road, after a move to Doncaster Rovers fell through in June.

“I’m really looking forward to what I can hopefully bring to this football club this season”, said Middleton said in an interview posted by the Hibernian Twitter account.

“I’m very hungry, I have a big desire to succeed in my career and do well. Hopefully, this season, I can kickstart things again.”

Rangers fans rage at Middleton’s loan destination

After Hibernian’s press release, Rangers published a statement of their own, confirming the teenager’s temporary departure.

It’s fair to say it hasn’t gone down well with a section of the fan base, either. Many feel the club shouldn’t be doing business with Hibs, after they refused to sell Scott Allan to the Gers in 2015, despite the midfielder handing in a transfer request [Sky Sports].

Here’s a selection of responses to the official announcement on the Twitter:
