‘Makes a grand total of 0 sense’ – Some Bears rage at ‘bizarre’ transfer report

According to the Glasgow Evening Times, Rangers are on the verge of signing Andy King.

It’s claimed the Leicester City midfielder will travel to Glasgow on Thursday to sign a season-long loan deal at Ibrox.

King, who is also a 50-cap Welsh international, is currently out of favour at the King Power and Brendan Rodgers has apparently cleared his exit.

It’s a surprising development, considering Steven Gerrard said he was happy with his squad and in no rush to add to it, in a transfer update on Wednesday afternoon [RangersTV].

However, the manager did later mention that he was considering the possibility of strengthening in midfield.

30-year-old King is a surviving member of the Leicester side who won the Premier League under the management of Claudio Ranieri in 2016. In fact, he’s been with the club for his entire professional career, excluding loan stints at Swansea in 2018 and with Derby earlier this year. Remarkably, he also has League One and Championship winners medals in his collection.

Should the move go through, he will be a sixth senior central midfield option at the club, joining Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo, Greg Docherty and Glen Kamara.

Rangers fans perplexed

Plenty of Bears aren’t too pleased with the news, though.

They suggest that there’s already enough quality in midfield and that bringing in King will just overcrowd the squad.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:

What do we think on this one Bears? A smart move to add more quality and experience, or is it overkill?
