Some Rangers fans want Gerrard to axe first-team star tomorrow for £3m international

Rangers return to action after the international break when they take on Livingston at Ibrox tomorrow – and some Gers fans want Steven Gerrard to axe Connor Goldson in favour of Swedish international Filip Helander.

Helander has barely been involved since his summer move from Bologna but fans feel it is the right time to bring the centre-back into the starting XI after some unconvincing performances from Goldson.

Since arriving at Ibrox from Brighton last year, Goldson has been a near-constant starter for Gerrard’s side and it seems unlikely he’ll be dropped – even if his recent performances haven’t been brilliant.

However, with Niko Katic in arguably the best form of his career, it would be even harder to take the Croatian out the side to make room for Helander.

With a hectic run of games coming up, it’s not really an ideal time to be tinkering with the side for the sake of introducing new faces, but Helander really needs to start showing why the Gers were so keen to land him.

As attention finally turns to the return of domestic games, some fans think the Swede deserves a chance to show what he can do – with one saying they would be “disappointed” if he wasn’t in the starting XI.
