Alan Hutton View: ‘Outstanding’ Ibrox talent tipped for Rangers full league debut v Hibs

Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to hand Scott Wright his first league start for Rangers against Hibernian on Sunday.

The former Ibrox defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he was dazzled by the “outstanding” 23-year-old in the 4-0 win over Cove Rangers.

Wright, who joined from Aberdeen in January, marked his first start for the Gers with a confident performance in a number 10 role.

He played the full 90 minutes and chipped in with an assist for Kemar Roofe’s second.

Wright has made five Premiership appearances for Rangers so far but all have come from the substitutes’ bench.

However, Hutton suggested that could change when Hibs visit Ibrox this weekend.

Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “I thought he was outstanding. The best player on the pitch for me. You can only play the team that’s in front of you.

“He’s had to bide his time, wait for his chance and it’s all about attitude when you’re playing lower league sides. If you turn up and think: ‘Oh, I just have to go on the pitch and it’ll happen,’ no, it’s not like that.

“He was on the front foot and he was aggressive in everything he did. He found those little pockets of space to make things happen and that’s how Rangers play. They like playing with two number 10s in there to create things and that’s what he did.

“He looked super confident. He was flicking the ball around the corner, playing one-twos, assisting goals.

“This is what we’ve all, as Rangers fans, have been waiting to see. His cameo performances have been excellent but we want to actually see him within a game.

“I thought it was outstanding and given Gerrard a headache moving into the Hibs game in my opinion because of his outstanding performance. If it was me, I’d keep him in, I’d want to see him playing against Hibs.”
