Richard Foster slams Alfredo Morelos despite Rangers win v Brondby

Richard Foster has slammed Alfredo Morelos after the Rangers striker endured another tough night in front of goal versus Brondby.

Although the Gers won 2-0 at Ibrox on Thursday night, Morelos struggled to find his goalscoring boots as he continues to wait for his 100th goal for the club.

Fashion Sakala replaced 25-year-old Morelos in the 70th minute and after he was substituted off, BBC pundit Foster assessed the Colombian’s dry spell in front of goal.

“I don’t know how he does it, but Morelos needs to try regain his confidence and raise his performance level,” Foster said on Sportsound on Thursday night, as quoted on BBC Sport’s website.

“He’s not done enough all round to say he’s a guaranteed starter.”

Not good enough

Morelos’ form is becoming more and more worrying each time he plays.

In the 1-1 draw with Hearts on Saturday, he wasted so many chances to score past Craig Gordon but wasn’t even able to hit the target.

Had he done that, we’d be clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and feeling way more comfortable going into the upcoming league fixtures.

Morelos was in similar form in the first half of last season but at least there was a reason for that because he’d been strongly linked with a move away from Ibrox for that whole summer.

We didn’t really get much speculation about him in the summer just gone except for some rumours linking him to Porto.

It wasn’t enough to affect his form or anything like that so it looks as though the Colombian is simply in a rut.

He’s netted just five times in 16 appearances in all competitions this season and two of those goals have been in the Scottish League Cup.

Morelos must start scoring in the more important games otherwise we could see Steven Gerrard axing him from his starting line-up.
