‘I’ve heard…’ – Ally McCoist shares new Rangers manager whispers live on talkSPORT

Ally McCoist says he’s “heard nothing but good things” about Michael Beale with Rangers set to make an official approach for the Queen’s Park Rangers boss.

talkSPORT revealed (23 November) the Gers are to make a move for their former assistant as they step up their search for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s replacement.

McCoist has suggested there are pros and cons if Beale is appointed, with the 42-year-old still in the early days of his managerial career.

“He was part of the coaching team that did so well to get to the final of the Europa League. I’ve heard nothing but good things about him out on the pitch itself,” said McCoist (talkSPORT, 06:51, 24 November).

“But it’s early in his managerial career, he’s done okay so far at QPR. He’s started very well but I think they’ve lost four of the last five though but we know that can happen at any stage in any manager’s career. I think there are pros and there are also cons, which I mention there.”

Main target

It’s clear the Gers have made the QPR boss their number-one target, with his connections to the club and the city being a big factor. It’s certainly a risk appointing a manager who has only experienced half a season of being the main man in the dugout. Furthermore, things have not been going completely to plan for Beale in the past couple of weeks in West London.

The board are in a difficult situation where there is a clamour for an appointment to be made quickly, whilst it’s absolutely vital the Gers get the right man in the Ibrox hot seat. Van Bronckhorst wasn’t going to be trusted with another transfer window, and with the January market fast approaching, the board must ensure they give the new man some support.

Rangers

Beale would certainly be a popular appointment amongst the Ibrox faithful and he would need to be given time to get things right.

It appears things have progressed quickly and it will now be down to Beale to decide if he will leave QPR after previously turning down Premier League side Wolves.

In other Rangers news, sources have revealed a clash between Van Bronckhorst and senior players that helped lead to his demise.
