Name already put forward as Michael Beale number two could be on way to Rangers – report

A name has been put forward to who could be Michael Beale’s number two at Rangers, should he become the head coach at Ibrox.

Former Arsenal and current Queens Park Rangers coach Neil Banfield has been mooted as the potential man to oversee affairs with Beale.

Speaking on the Rangers Review podcast on YouTube, journalist Graeme Hanna admitted that Banfield was a name that was put forward to him on 24 November 2022.

“Neil Banfield, that’s a name that was put forward to me yesterday as a potential,” said Hanna on the Rangers Review podcast.

“Neil Banfield was a trusted lieutenant in the background with Arsenal, with the youth academy and supporting Arsene Wenger, well over 20 years of experience as a coach, very high in standards.

“He’s the current coach with Beale, so if a deal gets done and over the line that’s one to look for.”

Banfield background.

The current QPR first-team coach spent 21 years at Arsenal learning his craft from one of the greatest ever coaches to grace the modern game, Arsene Wenger.

Some of world football’s best talents have passed through his guidance over the years, Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere, Robin Van Persie and Ashley Cole to name a few.

He has a tough-love approach that will sit well with the Ibrox faithful and is the kind of man to drum sum consistency into the current Gers’ first XI.

His pedigree is classy, renowned and perfect for what the club need right now, hopefully, Beale can persuade him to move to Glasgow should his inevitable appointment happen.

He’s a true football lover, who lives and breathes the game and it’s this kind of passion that can guide Rangers season to better days.

It’s going to be an exciting weekend to be a Rangers fan, a Beale and Banfield arrival would be the icing on the cake to start preparations for the Scottish Premiership return.
