Sky Sports: Ross Wilson still works on Rangers manager shortlist, four names emerge

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson is still assessing a list of managerial candidates amid reports the club have approached Michael Beale for the job, Sky Sports have reported.

The Gers are searching for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s replacement in the Ibrox dugout after his sacking on Monday 21 November, with four names reportedly remaining on Wilson’s shortlist.

Following a dire start to the season, which sees the club nine points off league leaders Celtic, the board are looking to appoint a new manager during the World Cup break.

And Sky Sports believe that although the club are set to approach QPR manager Beale for the job, Wilson is still doing his background reading on several targets.

The report said: “Gers sporting director Ross Wilson has been working through a thorough shortlist, with several names like Sean Dyche, Kjetil Knutsen and Gerardo Seoane also linked to the role.”

Due Diligence

After a number of embarrassing mistakes in the past few years, the Rangers board, and more specifically Wilson are right to do their due diligence before appointing a new manager.

The Gers don’t want another Van Bronckhorst situation to arise after bringing in a fresh face, so gathering their intel on a number of targets is a wise move.

Beale is clearly the club’s favourite choice to take the reins in the Ibrox dugout and considering his previously successful stint at the club, it would be hard to argue otherwise.

The QPR manager has impressed in his first major managerial position, leading his side to the brink of the promotion places, after 21 games of the season.

Although the 42-year-old rejected the Wolves job earlier this season, the lure and magnitude of the Rangers job might prove too big for the up-and-coming manager to turn down.

The shortlist has four names on it, but if Beale wants the job, it’s his.
