Rangers agree ‘significant’ transfer exit clause, future return also an option

Charlie McCann could return to Rangers in the future despite the 20-year-old’s departure to Forest Green Rovers being confirmed.

Gloucester Live suggest (24 January) the League One side could end up paying £350,000 for the midfielder, who cost Rangers £750,000 in the summer of 2021.

Whilst confirming McCann’s departure on Tuesday (24 January) the Gers revealed they hold a “significant” sell-on percentage for the 20-year-old, as well as a return option and matching rights for the future.

Good move

This does feel like the best move for all parties. Forest Green are in desperate need of reinforcements after struggling in their first season in League One, and McCann desperately needs game time. It will be disappointing for the Gers to lose out on the midfielder, but ultimately not all transfers work out in the right way.

Michael Beale landed his first addition of the January window in Todd Cantwell – and he will be hopeful of one or two more signings before the window eventually slams shut. McCann will not be the only player the new boss deems surplus to requirements over the next couple of transfer windows.

There will be a number of players who are coming to the end of their careers at Ibrox, and it could give the new boss the perfect opportunity to undertake the squad transformation which he sees fit. Let’s all hope for another busy week on the transfer front as the window nears its conclusion.
