Rangers senior scout John Park is reportedly under consideration for a return to Hibernian as the club’s director of football, according to The Scottish Sun.
The 64-year-old was appointed by Gers sporting director Ross Wilson in July, and reportedly ticks all the boxes for Hibs where he worked previously as academy director for nine years before being appointed recruitment chief at Celtic in 2007.
He spent nine years in Glasgow between 2007-16 and famously helped the club identify talents such as Virgil van Dijk, Fraser Foster, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele.
Park left Celtic in 2016 after Brendan Rodgers, Bhoys boss at the time, wanted his own recruitment appointment in Lee Congerton in which he joined Blackburn Rovers successfully helping Tony Mowbray rebuild the club at Ewood Park into Championship promotion contenders before leaving at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
And now he could be in line for a return to Hibernian, according to reports in The Scottish Sun [24 January] with the club picking him as the ideal candidate to “urgently revamp and improve the club’s failing football structure.”
It’s no doubt that Park has made major renovations and rebuilding jobs at every club he’s been at throughout his recruitment career.
It’s incredibly important that the Gers attempt to convince him to stay on at the club, as his knowledge and experience may prove crucial in helping Michael Beale build a squad capable of toppling Celtic once again.
The former Queens Park Rangers boss is undergoing a tremendous job so far at Ibrox and could be the man to build something special at Ibrox for a number of years, so having people as good as Park within his recruitment circle could help him do just that.
If Park ends up leaving, it’ll certainly be difficult to replace his wealth of knowledge and experience with the club in danger of having to undergo a major revamp of their recruitment department which could set them back another season of titles.
